Stafffighters e-Learning Project
A "Sarilho" is a specific technique that simulates an attack and/or defense in a specific circumstance and location.
Made with technical defense movements trained in sequence. As a general rule, "sarilhos" are performed as an exercise with the purpose of increasing ease in handling the staff, acquiring coordination between the movements of the staff and legs, and teaching the beginner how to move in space..
This chapter aims to teach one of the holding guard positions, "Guarda de espera alta à ponta do pau na posição esquerda" (for athletes with the dominant right hand).
It is common in combat to use the type of movement that is quickest and that most facilitates the rotation of each attack or places the body in the most appropriate defensive position. For that, we have to include two more movements: Avançar and Sair.
Being the opposite movement to the previous one, "Sair" works in the same way.
